Description

Vitaleta Chapel artist statement: Vitaleta a unique majestic iconic view of a Tuscany architectural jewel

Vitaleta, is one of the most iconic and desired photographic locations in Italy. The small chapel named “Madonna di Vitaleta Chapel” is a small private chapel. It is  located in the Val D’Orcia region of Tuscany. And it is one of the most photographed churches in Tuscany. The chapel is mentioned for the first time in a document dating back to 1590. It was renovated to its’ current state by architect Giuseppe Partini in 1884. UNESCO recognizes this little church as a heritage site. Only a small unpaved road leads to the chapel. Closeup photography is difficult. However you can photograph Vitaleta from the main road with the proper lens. Picturesque serene location up on a hill creates the majestic beauty of this place. And the majestic view of an “object” in an empty field is stunning. In this case the “negative space” is not overpowering the object of the photo itself. It is worth mentioning that the film “Gladiator” scenes of Maximus’ were filmed here. The country house when he returns home from Rome is the Vitaleta church. The location and the settings of the chapel perfectly matched the narrative of the film. A very impressive and highly recommended tourist travel destination. The view is worth the effort of traveling in Tuscany to reach this gem. Photographers if you travel in Tuscany, you owe it to yourself to visit Vitaleta.
