Painting creation

My “Dancing airplanes” sold. And while the artwork speaks for itself and needs no introduction, the concept and its’ creation process does. Behind my artwork, there is usually a concept and an idea I wish to talk about, express and share. And so it was also with “Dancing airplanes”. The main idea of this artwork is that in each one of us there is a child. We chug along through life’s many difficulties and responsibilities, and sometimes we just feel like going back in time, back to the days when all was simple and carefree when we were just children playing and flying high in the airplanes of our dreams.

Asset collection

The process of creation began with the paper construction of the two types of airplanes that I used to build as a child.

Texture

Next, the airplanes needed to fly high in the sky and an appropriate abstract blue background to simulate the sky was secured.

Composition

Planes were randomly placed on the background one by one. They were scaled up or down and moved around to create the desired effects.

Coloring

Each airplane received a different color/tint to simulate toy colors.

Background adjustment

Because the airplanes were perceived as flying all around from the ground up, the sky high above as well as the airplanes in the top third of the image, needed to be foggy to simulate a far away distance.

Final touch

A bit more tweaking resulted in a few airplanes colliding with a kiss.
